Today w started our Namibian adventure; flying into the capital city of Windhoek.
At the airport we were met by our driver / guide from Karibu tours, one Elago or to provide his full name - Elago Namalambo Negumbo. He drove us into town to our Delightful hotel before our first Namibian birding experience - visiting Avis Dam. This was some excellent first birding.
Avis Dam suggests wetland birding and while there was some wetland much of the birding was done in the grassland and rocky ridges surrounding them.
The Bird of the Day was a classic species - Rockrunner; a beautiful bird that responded well and gave great views on the lower rocky slope.

Our first day in Namibia was not uniformly excellent however as we or rather Jan had a bit of bad luck on returning to Windhoek. Leaving our bus / truck she lost her footing on the steep stairs and fell, catching her arm on a exposed bolt cutting it badly. A visit to the doctors was necessary where she received expert care and a number of stitches. Luckily we had Marie Davidson on our trip, a retired nurse, who helped Jan with her dressings for the remainder of the trip.
